Lab Attire...
Fun fact: I used to have a blog named Lab Attire. It was a cute little site where I wrote essays, posted my favorite songs, and so on. It was certainly nothing groundbreaking. But, it was my own place in this crazy digital world. One day an interesting thing happened; I mistyped the address into the search bar. Up popped a lesbian soft porn website. 🙃 |
One of my favorite things in this world are flowering trees, pink flowering trees to be specific. When I lived in Boston, they lined the streets of my neighborhood and were the only things that kept me semi-sane in the frozen tundra that is the Northeast. I'd pass their barren branches for 8 months out of the year and then, suddenly, there'd be this big burst of color! It was almost magical! Seemingly overnight, there would be these beautiful, happy flowers and petals decorating the sidewalk, creating a dreamy pink runway out of piss covered city streets. And then you'd have about 3 weeks to enjoy nature's splendor until winter returned. While I'm exaggerating (kind of), I place pink flowering trees in the same category with those cute, bunny-shaped marshmallows that come out every year around Easter time. Like these, each bud is a sweet reminder that Spring has finally arrived. File this under #PassTheAntihistamine

Atlanta has been going through a lot lately. First, the highway blew up, creating a life-sized Hot Wheels crash course out of I-85. Yesterday, the whole state was under tornado warning for an entire day. Then not even an hour after the tornado watch expired, there was an earthquake. Shit is real, son! Out of all of the madness, there has been some positivity. 1) By miracle, no one was hurt in the highway collapse and 2) the temperature dropped so I was able to pull out two furry little friends. I'm going to go off tangent for a bit. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother. Aside from Blanche Devereaux, my grandmere was THE most glamorous woman that I had ever seen! She had red fingernails, a color that was strictly off limits to me since I wasn't "grown", and wore golden Daniel Greene bedroom slippers! Basically, she was fly af. When she left us, the slipper industry took a turn and all that remained were those stupid slip-proof socks with tread on the bottom or oversized puppy heads. It was truly dreadful. So, imagine my joy when I happened upon the Gucci slides! It was basically a sign from above. I wear them happily knowing that my granny is Cha-Cha-ing all over heaven in matching slippers. It's April Fool's Day. Some of y'all will be tempted to be "funny" today. Here's a word to the wise: Pettiness is at an all time high since January 20, 2017. If your idea of funny involves making a cruel joke that will take your beloved on an emotional roller coaster, DON'T DO IT!!! Instead, if your goal is to be whimsical/creative/bold, do it with an accessory instead. I've been loving stripes this season. I found a cute structured bag with bold stripes and paired it with oversized sunnies, because, let's be honest, everything looks amazing with oversized sunnies. Each of these options are better than being punched in the face when a prank doesn't end up the way you've intended! Be safe though. I would chose to start something major on 3/27. Here's the backstory. Like most scientists, I celebrate trivial days that remind me of something scientific. Pi Day, for example, is celebrated every March 14th because pi= 3.14(15926...). On this day, nerds across the globe eat pizza, go cycling, bake pies, whatever. Everything circular gets a pass. A number that is more meaningful to me is the molecular weight of DHA, docosahexaenoic acid. DHA is the fat that's in those fish oil supplements that Dr. Oz is always trying to push (and rightfully so). It's necessary for the development of the central nervous system, prevention of heart disease, certain cancers, and countless other things. This isn't a lipid biochemistry blog so I won't get too deep. But, aside from the health benefits, DHA was the focus of my PhD dissertation. I spent 5 long years chasing down 327 and I suppose that I haven't stopped. Plus, I eat a lot of fish so, there's that. And here we are. 3/27/17 and I'm (re)starting a blog...a "lifestyle" blog, at that. There will be selfies, food, flowers, cats, and shoes. Lots and lots of shoes. With that, Happy DHA Day! Celebrate with a fish taco (as if you needed any excuse)! |
