Lab Attire...
Fun fact: I used to have a blog named Lab Attire. It was a cute little site where I wrote essays, posted my favorite songs, and so on. It was certainly nothing groundbreaking. But, it was my own place in this crazy digital world. One day an interesting thing happened; I mistyped the address into the search bar. Up popped a lesbian soft porn website. 🙃 |
I would chose to start something major on 3/27. Here's the backstory. Like most scientists, I celebrate trivial days that remind me of something scientific. Pi Day, for example, is celebrated every March 14th because pi= 3.14(15926...). On this day, nerds across the globe eat pizza, go cycling, bake pies, whatever. Everything circular gets a pass. A number that is more meaningful to me is the molecular weight of DHA, docosahexaenoic acid. DHA is the fat that's in those fish oil supplements that Dr. Oz is always trying to push (and rightfully so). It's necessary for the development of the central nervous system, prevention of heart disease, certain cancers, and countless other things. This isn't a lipid biochemistry blog so I won't get too deep. But, aside from the health benefits, DHA was the focus of my PhD dissertation. I spent 5 long years chasing down 327 and I suppose that I haven't stopped. Plus, I eat a lot of fish so, there's that. And here we are. 3/27/17 and I'm (re)starting a blog...a "lifestyle" blog, at that. There will be selfies, food, flowers, cats, and shoes. Lots and lots of shoes. With that, Happy DHA Day! Celebrate with a fish taco (as if you needed any excuse)!
